Miami head coach Chris Risenhoover saw some bright spots - and some deficiencies - following Thursday night's scrimmage with Vinita at Robertson Field.
“I was happy with our defensive effort but there were some little mistakes made on offense,” Risenhoover said.
The scrimmage was the final tuneup for the Wardogs, who kick off the 2007 season next Friday at Rogers, Ark.
“Our defense flew around and played with a lot of intensity,” Risenhoover said. “They (the Hornets) got behind us a couple of times because of their speed. They have lot team speed and a good quarterback.”
The Wardogs had to shuffle personnel on the offensive line since junior tackle Curtis Chambers was out with an illness.
“We were scrambling around with the line,” Risenhoover said. “We blew a few assignments. I wanted us to be more physical inside with the run game.”
Risenhoover was disappointed that the No. 1 offensive unit didn't generate a touchdown.
“I was looking at it on film and we're driving it in a lot of situations,” he said. “We've got a lot of things to keep polishing this week.”
Other scrimmages Thursday night included Grove at Tulsa Kelley (with Tulsa Metro Christian), Quapaw at Chouteau and South Coffeyville at Welch.
Five area schools will be in action tonight: Commerce at Verdigris, Afton at Wyandotte, Fairland at Chelsea and Bluejacket at White Oak (with Prue, Shidler and Agra).
