QUAPAW – A 17-run fourth inning helped Wyandotte breeze to a 27-0 victory over Quapaw in the baseball season opener for both teams.
Jacob Lux and Ty Essex combined on a one-hit shutout for the Bears.
Lux gave up the only hit, fanned eight and walked one in three innings and Essex fanned one in two innings of work.
Quapaw's only hit was a first-inning single by Tyler Estep.
Wyandotte jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, scored a run in the second and picked up seven more tallies in the third.
Tate Smith was the Bears' offensive leader, getting two singles, a double and a triple while driving in three runs.
Andrew Douthit added two singles and an inside-the-park home run in the third inning. He drove in four runs.
Orrin Ryan had a single and a sacrifice fly with four RBIs while Terry Wyland and Colton McCloud each had a single and two RBIs.
Lux and Scotty Rotzal each had a double.
Wyandotte hosts Afton and Quapaw entertains Oklahoma Union on Monday.
