AFTON – Nineteen batters went to the plate during a 14-run first inning for Afton and the Eagles breezed to a 16-0 victory over Bluejacket in a high school baseball game.
Cecil Jones and Eric Wilmoth combined on a one-hit shutout for the Eagles (2-1).
Jones pitched the first two innings. He struck out two and walked one and allowed Bluejacket's only hit, a double to right by Austin Stoner on the first pitch of the game.
Wilmoth fanned two of the three batters he faced.
Afton collected 11 hits in the game, 10 coming in the first inning.
The key blows were a two-run double by Teddy Jones, a two-run double by Dusty Henry and RBI singles by Cecil Jones, Wilmoth, Blake Wisdom, Trevor Maupin and Brennon Fuser and a bases-loaded walk to Jordan Corley.
Zack Dotson also picked up an RBI in the inning when he was hit by a pitch.
The Eagles scored two more times in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Maupin and a grounder by Dotson.
Bluejacket's only other runner came in the top of the second, when Rogers walked with two out and stole second. Eric Andrade struck out to end the inning.
Henry, Fuser, Jones and Wisdom each had two hits while Wilmoth, Jones and Corley each had one hit.
Weather permitting, Afton hosts Fairland Monday.
