QUAPAW — Whoever wins this week's 2012 Lucky 7 Conference baseball tournament probably will hope for a little less drama than was involved in last year's event.

Thanks to the tie-breaking criteria of fewest runs allowed, Commerce won the 2011 title despite a 7-3 loss to Fairland in the tournament's final game.

The Tigers, Fairland and Welch all finished 1-1 in pool play, Welch upsetting Fairland 8-5 while Commerce topped Welch 5-3.

As a result, run differential was used to settle the winner. Fairland allowed 11 runs in its five tournament games while Commerce and Welch yielded 10 each. The Tigers were declared the winner since head-to-head competition was the deciding factor.

It’s the first conference title — tournament or regular season — for the Tigers in recent memory.

The Tigers and Fairland square off in Monday's noon opener, followed by Quapaw and Welch at 2 p.m.

The Commerce-Fairland loser plays Afton at 6 p.m. With ther Quapaw-Welch loser meeting Wyandotte at 8 p.m.

Two games are on tap for Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m. With another three on Thursday.

The third-place game will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday with the title game following at about 6:30 p.m.

Weather, which was a major factor in play last week, shouldn't be a problem this week. The forecast for Tuesday through Saturday calls for only a 20 percent chance of rain.
