COMMERCE - An error with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning helped Commerce eke out a 2-1 victory over Fairland in a Lucky 7 Conference softball game Monday night.

Commerce had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, then the Lady Owls tied the score in the third. The teams battled to a standoff until the eighth.

Jaci Knight led off the Lady Tiger eighth with a single. Lindsey Heatherly grounded out, advancing Knight to second. She went to third on a passed ball before Kourtney Reading singled.

Reading stole second then Courtney Watson reached on an error, allowing Knight to score the game-winner.

Commerce grabbed the lead in the first when Heatherly was safe on a one-out error. She stole second and went to third when Reading grounded out.

Heatherly then scored on a single by Courtney Watson.

Then in the third, Kelsey Campbell singled with one out. She stole second and went to third on a single by Kayla Kowal.

Jessica Blalock picked up the RBI with a base hit. Kayla Kowal attempted to score on the play but was cut down at home.

Commerce stranded runners at second and third in the fifth and at second base in the third inning. Johna Sharp had a two out triple in the sixth but couldn't score.

Fairland left runners at second in the first, sixth and seventh innings.

In the seventh, Katie Schubert was hit by a pitch with one out. She stole second but was left stranded.

Losing pitcher Kelsey Campbell retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Her counterpart, Johnna Beets, got a fly ball to right, a popup to second and a line drive to second in the top of the eighth.

Blalock and Campbell had two singles each for the Lady Owls. Kowal and Brooke Kerns chipped in with singles.

In addition to Sharp's triple, Commerce got singles from Watson, Knight and Reading.

Commerce begins play in the Delaware tournament while Grove enters the Grove tournament, both beginning Thursday.
