FAIRLAND – Jerry Johnson saw some good and some bad in Fairland's four-way scrimmage here Friday night.
“We didn't do bad,” Johnson said of the final preseason tuneup that included Colcord, Barnsdall and Chelsea. “I thought our intensity was pretty good. We moved the ball. I looked at film and saw some things there were poorly executed and quite honestly, things we feel we really need to improve.”
Johnson said the Owls scored against Barnsdall and Chelsea and allowed only one touchdown all night (against Barnsdall).
“We were happy we didn't give up a lot of touchdowns,” Johnson said. “Offensively, we moved the ball pretty well, but our execution wasn't very good.”
The “meet the team” scrimmage also saw cheerleaders, the dance team and members of the other fall sports teams introduced.
“It was a great crowd ... a lot people showed up,” Johnson said. “That was cool.”
The Owls open the season Friday night at home with Wyandotte.
