JAY - Miami struck early then coasted to a 2-0 victory over Locust Grove in an American Legion baseball tournament here Tuesday night.
Post 147 got the only runs of the game in the first inning on a two-run double off the wall in left-center by Nick Henson.
Brock Fletcher led off by being hit by a pitch. He moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Walker. A walk to Brett Abell loaded the bases.
Henson then drove in what turned out to be the only runs of the game
“We just put it on cruise control,” Miami coach Chris Mercer said. “With Brett pitching, they never threatened.”
Mercer said the game was completed in 80 minutes.
“It was unreal,” Mercer said.
Miami's only other hit in the game was a base hit by Andrew Allen.
Abell struck out 10 while allowing only one hit.
“It was a real pitcher's duel,” Mercer said.
Post 147 faced Grove Wednesday night, battles Jay at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Vinita at 5 p.m. Friday. The final round of games will be Saturday.
