Dealing with the paperwork and administrative portion of coaching football at the junior college level today, Northeastern A&M Golden Norse head coach Rob Green and his staff will direct their energies to evaluating talent starting Wednesday.

“The first day is always a little bit hectic as you're checking in more than 130 young men into dormitories, Green said. “Just getting them acclimated to NEO and the whole college setting is time consuming.

After checking into the dorms from noon until 2 p.m., the prospects started checking out equipment at 3 p.m.

“We're still getting shipments of equipment everyday, Green said. “We'll just have to make do until everything comes in.

Following the first team meal in the college cafeteria at 6 p.m., the team will have a team meeting-orientation session starting at 7:30 p.m.

Splitting the first three days of practice into two sessions, the sophomores work out in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads at 9 a.m. Wednesday while the freshmen start at 6:30 p.m. through Friday.

“We told the sophomores we expect to be able to pick up right where we left off in May, Green said. “That will allow us to go at a different pace and get a lot accomplished.

Following lunch, defensive coaches Travis Rhatigan, Jarod Green and Mac Whitehead will meet at 2 p.m. with the defensive unit followed by a meeting of both the special teams and punt coverage units at 2:45 p.m.

Coach's Green, Donnie Bigby, Kyle Woods and J. Dee Marinko will huddle with the Golden Norse offensive squad starting at 3:15 p.m.

After dinner, the freshmen prospects start practice at 6:30 p.m.

“Working with freshmen, you've always got to slow down a lot more and really stress the mental part of the game, Green said. “You've also got to incorporate the conditioning part until we get to full pads on Saturday.

The Golden Norsemen start full pad contact on Saturday with practices at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
