OKLAHOMA CITY — Seth Rhodes turned in a 5-over par 149 during the first 36 holes of the Class 4A state golf tournament here Monday.
Playing in less-than-favorable weather during his first 18 holes, Rhodes had a 76. Conditions improved during the afternoon round and he had a one-over 73.
“He played well,” Miami coach John Kurtz said.
Rhodes’s day started with a double bogey on his first hole, then he bogeyed No. 2.
He only had one bogey the rest of the way and sits five-over on the Lake Hefner North course.
“He’s sitting in a decent spot,” Kurtz said.
Both Rhodes and Cale Holton of Poteau had 149s.
Brandon Jackson of Fort Gibson was the first-day leader at 143.
Wagoner’s Wes Call had a 145 and Hilldale’s Jordan Perceful shot 146.
Rhodes beat Call in a one-hole playoff for medalist honors at the Verdigris Valley Conference golf tournament last month.
The top two seniors from the east side of the state will secure berths in the all-state match later this summer.
A final 18 holes will be played today.
