Locked in a battle for the top seed in the Eastern Division of the Bi-State Athletic Conference, Northeastern A&M’s Golden Norsemen entertain the Vikings of Carl Albert State College at 8 p.m. Monday in the NEO Fieldhouse.
After dropping a 74-66 decision at Arkansas-Fort Smith last Thursday, coach Dustin Grover’s Golden Norse are 3-2 in the Bi-State East and 16-10 overall.
Coach Mike St. John’s Carl Albert Vikings suffered a 72-68 loss at Connors State on Feb. 9 to fall to 2-2 in the Bi-State East and 9-16 on the year.
“Our main focus will be to take care of the basketball,” Grover said. “We had too many turnovers against Fort Smith and they resulted in some easy baskets.
“We’ve also got to do a better job on the back end of our full court press,” Grover said. “We’ve got to pressure the basketball better and not let them get the ball down inside for breakaway layups.”
When the two teams met Jan. 29 in Poteau, the Golden Norsemen lost a 13-point halftime lead en route to a 90-88 overtime defeat by the Vikings.
