JOPLIN, Mo. - Miami remained unbeaten in the Joplin Passing League following wins over the Joplin JV and McDonald County High School here Tuesday night.
MHS coasted to a 28-6 victory over the Eagles then notched a 38-13 decision against McDonald County.
The win was the sixth straight for Miami, which wraps up league play Tuesday night with games at 7 and 8 p.m. at Junge Field.
“We're getting better every week,” Miami coach Chris Risenhoover said. “Trent (quarterback Trent Turner) looked outstanding and we had to really lean on Pickens (wide receiver James Pickens) at wideout, especially with White down.”
The Wardogs lost senior receiver Josh White for at least three weeks with a high ankle sprain after catching a touchdown against the Joplin JV.
“Pickens is the only varsity receiver with experience right now,” Risenhoover said.
Pickens had touchdown catches of 21,14, 6 and 21 yards in the win over McDonald County.
Casey Carson added the fifth score, a 40-yard catch and run.
Turner was 23 of 31 passing, with the five scores.
Jordan Hessee had one interception for the Wardogs.
Miami jumped out to a 22-0 lead at the half against the Joplin JV.
Grant Bigby had the Dogs' first score, a 1-yard catch, then Pickens added a 13-yard scoring reception. White was hurt on a 21-yard TD play.
Hessee had Miami's final touchdown, a 22-yard play.
Turner was 20 of 31 passing while throwing for the four scores.
Chad Johnston, Carson and White each had an interception.
Miami will participate in the Metro Lakes Conference team camp Monday and Tuesday. The first session will be at Tahlequah and Tuesday will be here. Due to construction at the high school, the camp will be held at Northeastern A&M's practice field starting at 9 a.m.
