FORT SMITH, Ark. — After a week-long break, Northeastern A&M’s Golden Norsemen resume action in the Eastern Division of the Bi-State Athletic Conference tonight at 8 p.m. against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in the Stubblefield Center.
Coach Dustin Grover’s Golden Norsemen are riding a three-game winning streak following an 85-77 victory over Connors State College last Thursday in the NEO Fieldhouse.
The Golden Norse are 3-1 in the Bi-State East and 16-9 on the season.
The Norsemen conclude the home portion of the regular season next week by hosting Carl Albert State College at 8 p.m. Monday and Eastern State College on Feb. 19.
“During our current run, we’ve been getting a total team effort from everybody,” Grover said. “We’ve done a good job of moving the ball on offense and for the most part been playing pretty good defense.
“We’ll need that kind of effort because it’s very difficult to win at Fort Smith,” Grover said. “They have the most avid fan base in the region and this will be our last game at their place.”
Third-year head coach Josh Newman has guided the Lions to a 17-8 season record. The Lions suffered a 93-68 loss on Monday at Eastern State and are 1-3 in the Bi-State East.
Freshman Phillipe Martin scored 27 total points to lead the Golden Norsemen to a 79-73 victory over the Lions on Jan. 31 in the NEO Fieldhouse. LaDustin Williams paced the Lions with 21 points.
“In our last four games, one guy might score 19 or 20 points while the rest of them might score 7 or 8,” Grover said. “I think that’s a fun way to play because we’re getting contributions from new guys every game.”
