Playland Lanes was the site of a qualifying tournament for area Special Olympians Saturday.

Bowlers from Miami, Jay and Wyandotte participated including residents of Fountain House and Home of Hope. Over 80 bowlers competed.

Jim Oldroyd coordinated the event through the Grand Area Special Olympics headquartered in Bartlesville. This was the second year the tournament was held in Miami. Qualifying bowlers will compete in the winter games held in Norman this January.

According to Oldroyd, there are 27 different sports available to the athletes nationally. Locally, the games are limited to bowling, swimming and track and field although there are plans to add basketball.
