Basketball tourney set at Afton

AFTON — The Nothing But Hoop 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held Saturday at Afton High School.

Registration will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The entry fee is $60 per team (cash only) and rosters are limited to four players.

Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place teams.

NEO football golf scramble set

Entries are still being accepted for the 26th annual Northeastern A&M Golden Norse football four-man golf scramble scheduled for Friday at Peoria Ridge Golf Course.

Registration is at 8 a.m. with a shot-gun start at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $85 per person which includes greens fee, a cart and a hamburger feed following the scramble.

All proceeds from the scramble will be used in the football program recruiting budget.

Numerous gifts and prizes will be presented following the scramble and prizes for first-second and third finishers will be awarded in two separate flights.

Youth Football registration under way

Online registration for Miami Youth Football has begun.

The program is for players who will be in the first through sixth grades.

Cost is $85 per player and $60 for each additional sibling.

Raffle tickets will be available to help offset the cost of registration.

To register online, go to www.sportabase.com; under registration, go to football & cheerleading, then pull down to Miami. Fill out the remainder of the registration form.

Pay online or pay Patsy Seat at Security Bank, 22nd & Main in Miami.

Coaches, volunteers and team moms are needed.

Miami will compete in the Indian Nations Football Conference. There will be four or five home games and four or five road games during the season.

Car pooling will be available.

Lady Wardog basketball camp set  

The Miami Lady Wardog Basketball Camp, for girls who will be in grades 2 through 7, will be June 29-July 1 at the Miami Activity Center.

Registration will be at 8:15 a.m. in the MAC lobby on the first day.  The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Cost is $55 per player and includes a T-shirt and basketball. Only early registration will guarantee a T-shirt size.

Only cash will be accepted for payment.

Peoria Ridge golf clinic planned

The annual Peoria Ridge Junior Clinic, for children ages 6 through 17, will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Wednesday at the course.

Cost is $60 per participant and includes three days of professional instruction on the golf swing, rules of golf and etiquette. There will be lunch and an awards ceremony on the final day.

The instructional staff will include head pro Keith Neel and assistants Freddy Vaughan and John Robinson.

Wrestling clinic set at Vinita

VINITA — A clinic for elementary, junior high and high school wrestlers will be held June 30 and July 1 in the Vinita High School wrestling room.

Cost of the camp is $10 per wrestler.

The camp will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 30 and from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. on July 1.

Major Dan Hicks, a three-time state champion at Vinita High School in the late 1980s and early’90s, will be the instructor. He is currently the head wrestling coach of the United States Marine Corps.

Hicks was an All-American at the Naval Academy.
