VINITA - A two-out double by Veronica Arizpe in the second inning helped Miami squeeze out a 2-1 victory over Vinita here Wednesday.
The win was the third straight for the Lady Wardogs, who had swept a double-header from Locust Grove here Tuesday.
They travel to Jay Saturday for a conference game.
Vinita jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning then Miami got the equalizer in the second.
Courtnei Young walked with one out, then Shelby Jurgensmeyer drew a walk with two out. Lacy Morgan delivered the RBI single that tied the game.
Then in the third, Kelsey Neal had a two-out walk and scored on the double by Arizpe.
The Lady Wardogs had a chance to pick up some insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Jurgensmeyer drew a one-out walk in the fourth but was left stranded.
Then in the fifth, Emily Cline singled and Neal doubled, but they were left stranded.
Jessica Kelly had a one-out single in the seventh, then the next two hitters were retired.
After getting its run in the first, Vinita left only four runners on base the rest of the game.
The Lady Hornets had the tying run at third with two out in the seventh, but Morgan got a called strikeout to end the game.
Morgan had three strikeouts while issuing one walk and four hits.
