LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - Three-time defending regional champion East Central College on Union, Mo., defeated the Northeastern A&M Lady Norse in the opening match before coach Eric Iverson's squad won two straight Saturday in the Division II pre-Region XIV Volleyball Seeding Tournament on the campus of Metropolitan Community College-Longview.

NEO (4-4) returns home Monday for a 6:30 p.m. match with Neosho County (Kan.) Community College (8-8) in the Student Activity Center.

"I think the gap between us and East Central is beginning to close," Iverson said. "It should be an exciting post-season regional tournament in November."

East Central's Lady Falcons (14-6) defeated the Lady Norse 25-19 and 25-21 before NEO gained a 25-12 and 25-17 win over the Wentworth Military Academy Lady Dragons (1-7) of Lexington, Mo. The Lady Norse defeated St. Louis Community College 25-14 and 25-17.

"I feel like we are continuing to make progress," Iverson said. "We played with a purpose all day  and that was rewarding. This puts us in a really good position in the region."

After sweeping three straight games on Sept. 14 against Cottey College in the NEO Student Activity Center, the Lady Norse won three consecutive games against the Labette College (Kan.) Lady Cardinals last Wednesday in Parsons, Kan.
