LOCUST GROVE – Fairland rolled to a 13-3 victory over Watts Wednesday in the first round of a slow-pitch softball tournament hosted by Locust Grove.

The Lady Owls face Stilwell Thursday morning in winners' bracket action.

“We're playing a little better now I think, so maybe we will beat them this time,” Fairland coach Jana Bartley said.

Stilwell topped the Lady Eagles 5-4 in the winners' bracket final and then 6-4 in the finals of the Salina Tournament earlier this month.

The Lady Owls spotted Watts a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of Wednesday's first-round clash,

A two-run single by Lauren McCabe tied the game, then a sacrifice fly by Lindsay Goodman gave Fairland the lead for good, 3-2.

FHS scored four more runs in the third, then broke the game open with a six-run rally in the fourth.

Paige Gibson had a triple and two singles for the Lady Owls. Whitney Dushane added a double and single while winning pitcher Leanna Prater, McCabe, Goodman and Cori McCorkell had two singles each.

Ashlee Davis doubled and Mahala Wisely chipped in with a single.

An error on a two-out grounder by McCabe allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the seventh inning as Fairland topped Welch 8-7 Tuesday evening.

Welch had tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Morgan Cook and a two-run error.

Goodman led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, then Davis reached on an error. Dushane loaded the bases with a single up the middle.

Gibson reached on a fielder's choice, with Goodman being forced at home. After Prater flied out, McCabe was safe on an error, allowing Davis to score the winning run.

Gibson had a triple and double for Fairland. Davis, McCabe and Goodman each had two singles while Dushane singled.

Lexie Mercer had a double and single while Breeanna Warner added two singles. Katy Jo Armstrong hit a solo home run in the fifth and Rylee Chenoweth, Rachel Seigel, Paige Hall and Cook added singles.

The Lady Owls got the deciding runs in the top of the sixth in a Monday game at Colcord.

The hosts had gone up 3-2 in the bottom of the third, but Fairland used a double by Prater and a single by McCabe to score a deciding two runs.

Colcord had only one baserunner in the final two innings against Prater.

Gibson had a triple and single and Prater added a double and single for the Lady Owls. Davis, McCabe and Lexi Wade had a single each,
