College golfers compete in pro tournament at Peoria Ridge
Miami's Calvin Becker and Nolan Couch, student-athlete golfers at NEO next year, participated in the Hooter's Golf Tournament at Peoria Ridge this past week-end. Congratulations to both of them for shooting a par 72 in a field of pro's. This is great experience for them for our up-coming season at NEO.
Local youth plays
Grove's 12-year old Tyler Busch is continuing his summer golf PGA Junior Tournament schedule. He has racked up enough points already to be automatically entered in the finals later this summer. He is now looking to participate in another series of tournaments that might challenge him a little more.
Golf Tip of the Week
If you are firing left of target and then right of target but still hitting the ball solidly, you are more than likely sliding.
When you move laterally too much (toward the target), then your contact point varies, thus hitting the ball sometimes early and then sometimes late and occasionally just right.
Solution: keep your head as still as possible. Look in a mirror and see if your head is sliding during your swing. It should remain in an imaginary, stationary box the entire backswing.
Golf Joke of the Week
A foursome of senior golfers hit the course with waning enthusiasm for the sport.
“These hills are getting steeper as the years go by,” one complained.
“These fairways seem to be getting longer too,” said one of the others.
“The sand traps seem to be bigger than I remember them too,” said the third senior.
After hearing enough from his senior buddies, the oldest, and the wisest of the four of them piped up and said, “Just be thankful we're still on the right side of the grass.”
Keep it in the Middle!
