KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Scoring the winning runs in the top of the seventh inning of both games, No. 7 ranked Northeastern A&M swept a Sunday double-header from the Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods Monarchs at Monarch Field.

NEO won the opener 3-2 in eight innings, then came back to claim a 5-3 decision in the nightcap.

While winning their fifth game in a row, coach Roger Ward's Golden Norsemen are 16-4 on the season. The Monarchs slip to 4-20 on the year.

The Golden Norsemen return home Wednesday for a 3 p.m. nine-inning game with the Tigers of Cowley Community College of Arkansas City, Kan., at Homa Thomas Field.

After battling to a 2-2 tie through seven innings of Sunday's first game, the Golden Norse scored an unearned run in the top of the eight inning to gain a one-run victory.

With two outs, Samuel Domingue doubled to left-center. Pete Hoyt reached on a throwing error by Monarchs third baseman Lonny Schoon as Domingue scored the go-ahead run.

NEO relief pitcher Dany Coulombe induced three infield gound outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game.

Following three scoreless innings, the Norsemen built a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Hoyt singled with one out and scored as Kevin Meyers hit a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for his team-leading fifth home run of the year.

A single by Will Carter and a walk to Joel Lewallen started a two-run rally by the Monarchs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Matt Russell doubled down the right-field line, scoring both Carter and Lewallen for a 2-2 tie.

Meyers had a homer and single while Domingue added two singles, along with base hits by Hoyt, Samuel Groleau and Calvin Ellis.

Along with the double by Russell, the Monarchs received singles from Carter, David Johnson and Cam Johnson.

Three runs in the top of the seventh inning by the Norse off-set a two-run rally in the bottom of the frame as NEO posted a 5-3 win in the second game.

Solo runs in the top of the fourth and sixth innings staked the Golden Norse to a 2-0 lead.

Ellis singled to start the fourth inning for the Norsemen. Walks to Cody Riley and Zane Fish loaded the bases. After Dom Samyn and C.J. Wilcox both popped out, Domingue singled to center, scoring Ellis with the first run.

Fish started NEO's sixth inning with a walk. Pinch runner Nick Shiplett advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Josh Schnable. After a wild pitch sent Shiplett to third, Domingue singled to left, scoring Shiplett for a 2-0 cushion.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ryan Cooper singled and advanced to third on a fielding error by Mark Podlas in center. Cooper came in to score on an error by Domingue at shortstop for a 2-1 deficit.

A walk to Hoyt and a double by Podlas started NEO's three-run seventh inning. After Meyers walked to fill the bases, Ellis reached on a fielder's choice as Hoyt scored. Shiplett walked to fill the bases before Schnable's single scored both Podlas and pinch runner Groleau for a 5-2 margin.

Kyle Willard replaced starter Travis Remillard for the Norsemen in the bottom of the seventh inning on the mound.

Matt Robaska singled with one out to start a two-run outburst by the Monarchs. Cam Johnson doubled with Robaska stopping at third. Lewallen delivered a two-out single scoring both Cam Johnson and Robaska before Brad Dillenbarger grounded out to end the game.

Domingue collected three of the 11 Golden Norse hits while Schnable and Ellis added two hits each.

Robaska and Lewallen had two hits each to lead the six-hit Maple Woods offense.
