EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — Bronson La’Cassie birdied the fifth playoff hole and outlasted Kelly Grunewald to win the Sunset Hills NGA Classic presented by The City of Edwardsville, Ill., and The Village of Glen Carbon, Ill., in dramatic fashion.

La’Cassie carded rounds 67, 71, 72 and 69 en route to posting a 9-under par 279 in regulation and the eventual playoff win, his second on the NGA Hooters Tour.

"It’s great to get the win," La’Cassie said. "I hit the ball well all week and kept it in front of me for the most part and made a few putts. When you do a lot of good things during the week it’s nice to be rewarded."

Luke List of Nashville, Tenn., posted 5-under 283 for the tournament to grab third. Jeff Corr of Longwood, Fla., Joe Affrunti of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Blaine Peffley of Lebanon, Pa. (who carded Sunday’s low round of 67), each posted 4-under 284 totals to share the fourth position.

"Out here (at the Sunset Hills Country Club) with the speed of the greens and the height of the rough, you’ve got to keep the ball below the hole on the greens and try and avoid the rough at all cost or you can make a big number" said La’Cassie, a former University of Minnesota standout from Brisbane, Australia. "Fortunately, I was able to do that quite a bit."

Playing Sunset Hills’ 18th hole for the fourth time on the day, La’Cassie’s 9-iron shot landed 6 feet from the flag. Grunewald, from Grand Prairie, Texas, was unable to get up and down from behind the green.

La’Cassie then two-putted for par, nailing down his win.

"It was long, but a lot of fun," La’Cassie said. "Kelly played great. It was a great atmosphere to be a part of. The fans were very supportive of us."

La’Cassie received the $33,566 winners check while Grunewald pocketed $16,735.
