AFTON — David Markes wasn’t surprised when Quapaw pushed his Afton Eagles for three quarters during Tuesday night’s opening round game in the Afton Coca-Cola Classic.

The Wildcats led by three points early in the third, but hit a cold spell and faltered down the stretch while suffering a 47-34 setback.

“Quapaw played really well,” Afton coach David Markes said. “They hustled, which we knew they would. Give them a lot of credit — we didn’t execute very well. Quapaw got the loose balls, outhustled us and beat us on the boards.”

In the other boys’ game Tuesday, Colcord rolled to a 74-45 victory over Fairland.

On the girls’ side, it was Afton 64, Colcord 46, and Quapaw 61,Fairland 24.
