Tentative pairings for the Class A Area I District 7 tournament at Welch were set up Monday.
The Barnsdall girls (10-3) and Welch boys (15-2) received byes for the tournament, which will be played Feb. 11.
First-round games pit the Afton (8-7) and Welch (6-11) girls and the Afton (5-11) and Barnsdall (8-7) boys.
The season ends for the first-round loser while the winners move on.
Official times will be announced Monday by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association
The Welch boys moved up to 11th in Class A after going 2-1 in the Northeastern A&M High School Tournament.
They sandwiched a 45-43 upset over 4A No. 11 Roland and a 42-39 decision over Miami around a 32-28 loss to 2A No. 17 Tulsa Lincoln Christian.
The Eagles dropped a 49-35 decision to Diamond, Mo., in the Boys’ Blue final at NEO.
Barnsdall suffered a 63-62 loss to 3A Nowata in the finals of the Caney Valley Tournament.
The Barnsdall girls lost to 3A Chelsea 44-35 in the finals at Caney Valley.
One of the Lady Panthers’ other losses was against Miami in the second round of the Sperry Tournament.
Welch finished third in the Girls’ Blue bracket at NEO, beating Foyil 57-45.
That was the Lady Wildcats’ second win of the season against Foyil. The first came in the Kenneth Sooter Invitational in December.
Afton went 1-1 in the Girls’ Gold bracket at NEO, losing to the Roland JV before topping Chetopa, Kan., in a consolation game.
