WELCH - Wyandotte had three players score in double figures and the Lady Bears used a scoring burst midway through the game to pull away from the Welch Lady Wildcats 52-28 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night.
Jesse Stone led all scorers on the night with 13, while teammates Jennifer McCloud and Abbi Munson chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wyandotte win.
The Lady Bears finished the second quarter on a 9-2 run for a 24-12 lead heading into halftime.
The scoring burst continued at the start of the third as the WHS girls ripped off a 7-2 effort to complete a 16-4 run which led to a 31-14 lead with 4:09 to play in the period.
After leading 37-20 at the end of the third, Wyandotte gained its largest lead of the night at 49-22 after a bucket by McCloud with 3:24 to play in the game.
Wyandotte closed out the game with a solid effort from the free throw line.
The Lady Bears iced the game connecting on 5-for-7 from the stripe to nail down the opening night win.
Wyandotte hosts Commerce Tuesday while Welch is idle until Nov. 30, when it travels to Oaks.
