PLANT CITY, Fla. - Faced with the undaunting task of playing three games today in the elimination round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Fast Pitch National Tournament, the 6th seeded Northeastern A&M Lady Norse began the challenge by facing 12th-seeded Butler County Community College of El Dorado, Kan. at the Plant City Softball Complex.
After suffering a 6-4 loss to 13th seeded Georgia Perimeter in the first game Thursday, coach Eric Iverson”s Lady Norse eliminated third seed Chattanooga State Technical College 2-1 Thursday night.
With a victory this morning in a loser”s bracket elimination game, the winner plays at 1 p.m. in a second loser”s bracket elimination contest.
The Lady Norse entered the second round of the double-elimination tournament with a 51-6 season record.
Butler County”s Lady Grizzlies upset fifth-seeded Otero, Colo. 5-4 in the first game Thursday before suffering a 6-2 loss to fourth-seeded Miami-Dade, Fla. Thursday night. The Lady Grizzlies stand 49-12 on the year.
Winner of the loser”s bracket quarterfinals plays at 5 p.m. in the loser”s bracket semifinals.
The loser”s bracket finals start at 9 a.m. Saturday followed by an “if necessary” game at 11 a.m.
The championship contest starts at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by an “if necessary” game at 3 p.m.
