Despite playing one of their best matches of the season, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norse suffered a 3-0 shutout Saturday at the hands of 15th-ranked Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.
The Golden Norse (5-8-2) entertain Hesston (Kan.) College today at 4 p.m. on the NEO soccer field.
"This was actually one of our best matches of the year," Golden Norse coach John Parrigon said. "They had shut us out 7-0 earlier this year, so we knew how good they are.
"They play at another level," Parrigon said. "Northern will go deep in the post-season playoffs.
NEO battled the Mavericks (12-3-2) to a 0-0 draw before consecutive goals by Rory Lynch, Randy Embry and Octavio Gonzalez in the final 15 minutes gave the Mavericks a 3-0 halftime lead.
"Our guys were pumped up emotionally and wanted Northern to know they had been in a soccer match." Parrigon said. "So they came out and played them even-up the entire second half."
The Golden Norse conclude their first season Tuesday with an 11 a.m. match against Bacone College in Muskogee
