SKIATOOK - A two-out single by Skiatook shortstop Amy Pedigo scored Sara Lorton in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 victory Thursday afternoon over the Miami High School Lady Wardogs in the championship game of the Class 5A fast-pitch softball regional tournament.

Coach Scott Dean's defending regional champion Lady Bulldogs advance to the state fast-pitch tournament Oct. 11-13 in Oklahoma City. The No. 3 ranked Lady Bulldogs stand 29-11 on the year.

With the loss, coach Chris Mercer's Lady Wardogs finish 20-19 on the season.

Lorton singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning off Miami starter Lacy Morgan. Following a walk to Missy Westover, Morgan struck out Kelly Degeer.

Pedigo lined a 1-1 pitch to left-center as Lorton crossed the plate to give the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Miami's only hit in the game occurred with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Veronica Arizpe singled to center on the first pitch. Courtnei Young forced Arizpe at second base before Kelsey Neal ground out to shortstop to end the game.

Degeer struck out seven and hit one while facing 23 batters in seven innings for the Lady Bulldogs.

Squaring off against Stilwell in an elimination game at noon Thursday, the Lady Wardogs scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to gain a 2-1 victory over the Lady Indians.

After being held hitless through five innings, Miami parlayed three straight errors by Stilwell to score two unearned runs. With one out, Jessica Kelly reached on a fielding error by shortstop Kristal Huval. Emily Cline reached on a two-base fielding error by Jordan Peck at first base as Kelly came around to score. Cline scored as Arizpe reached on Huval's second error in the inning.

Miami's lone hit of the game was a one-out single by Shelby Jurgensmeyer in the top of the seventh inning.

Stilwell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off Miami starter Kelsey Neal. Rachel Wilkie singled to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Abby Dougherty, Wilkie scored on a single to right by Jamie Sawney.

Neal struck out 13 and walked one while allowing a double by Huval and singles by Wilkie and Sawney.

The Lady Wardogs advanced to the elimination round with a 6-0 no-hitter over East Central Wednesday afternoon.

Arizpe struck out eight and did not walk a batter in seven innings of work for Miami.

She hit a batter in the fourth inning or her effort would have been a perfect game.

Consecutive singles by Haiden Rowland and Kelly along with a walk by Cline filled the bases for the Lady Wardogs in the bottom of the third inning. Arizpe lined a single to left scoring both Rowland and Kelly. Young drilled a 2-1 pitch to right-center scoring both Cline and Arizpe for a 4-0 Miami lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Arizpe reached on an error. After Neal singled to left, both runners scored as East Central second baseman Kendra Sellers made a high throw to first on a ball hit by Young.

Singles by Rowland, Kelly, Arizpe, Neal and Young accounted for Miami's offense.

Opening the tournament against Stilwell, the Lady Wardogs stranded seven runners on base while suffering a 5-0 loss to the Lady Indians.

A two-run double by Dougherty scored Megan Goodwin and Jamie Fountain in the top of the third inning. Both runners had reached on Miami errors.

Dougherty doubled and Peek walked with two outs in the fifth inning. Tiffany Goodwin hit a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence for a three-run homer to give Stilwell a 5-0 cushion.

Jurgensmeyer collected two of the four Lady Wardog singles along with hits by Neal and Melanie Blackburn.
