Tri-State Air Camp set

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Tri-State Air Camp, concentrating on the skill positions in football, will be held June 17-19 at Joplin High School.

The camp is designed for quarterbacks, receivers (including tight ends) and running backs.

The camp will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m., with a 90-minute lunch break.

Cost is $100 (with a $25 deposit required). It covers lunch each day, a camp T-shirt and supplemental insurance for campers.

Camp co-directors include Miami High School head coach Chris Risenhoover, Joplin High School head coach Doug Buckmaster and Yukon athletic director David Fisher.

The camp is for players who will be in the fifth through 12th grades.

Bowling leagues start

Summer bowling leagues are currently being organized at Playland Lanes.

The leagues include a Monday Draw League, a Wednesday Cardinal Generation Gap League and a Thursday night co-ed league.

The Monday league will start at 7 p.m. The Cardinal Generation Gap League consists of one youth bowler and one adult bowler. Both teams and individuals are being sought. Contestants in this league ill have the chance to go to a St. Louis Cardinals game at no cost.

The co-ed league will start at 7 p.m. and consists of four-person teams.

Individuals and teams are needed for all three leagues.

NEO planning two girls basketball camps

A pair of girls’ basketball camps have been scheduled at Northeastern A&M.

The Lady Norse Camp of Champions will be from 9 a.m. to noon on June 1-4. Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. on June 1.

The camp is for girls who will be in grades 2 through 8.

Cost is $55 if the player registers before May 24 and $60 after that. Players will receive a camp T-shirt and a basketball.

An offensive skills camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on June 8-11. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on June 8.

The camp is for girls who will be in grades 9 through 12.

Cost is $50 and players will receive a camp T-shirt.

Wardog Basketball Camp set for June 1-4

The Wardog Basketball Camp, for boys who will be in the third through eighth grades, will be held June 1-4 at the new Miami Activity Center.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Registration will be from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. on June 1.

Cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt and basketball. Checks should be made payable to Rusty Mercer.

The camp will be held in the new gym at the MAC, which is located on the Miami High School campus.

Instruction will be provided by the MHS boys’ coaching staff along with varsity players.

Gatorade, water and other refreshments will be on sale.

CHS cheerleaders sell fireworks as fund raiser 

COMMERCE — The Commerce High School cheerleaders are currently selling fireworks as a fund-raiser.

Proceeds will help with expenses for camp this summer.

The price is $50 for a family pack. Orders will be taken until June 15.

Fireworks will be delivered approximately a week before the Fourth of July.

Kitchen Pass tourney set at Peoria Ridge

The 23rd annual Kitchen Pass tournament, a two-man best ball event, will be held May 30-31 at Peoria Ridge Golf Course.

There will be around $8,000 in prizes awarded, including Titleist irons, drivers and wedges.

There will be six flights, paying five places with a maximum field of 116 teams.

The entry fee is $250 per team an includes a Friday practice round, Saturday and Sunday green fees, a cart, range balls and a skins pot for both days.

It also includes a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party for a player and one guest on Saturday starting at 7 p.m. at the ByPass at the Kitchen Pass, 1212 Main Street in Joplin, Mo.

The entry fee does not include a cart for Friday’s practice round.

Tee times will be from 7:20 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 12:20 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday’s tee time requests will be honored in the order paid entries are received. Sunday’s tee times will be by flight, with no exceptions.

The deadline to enter is May 26.
