COLLINSVILLE - Miami's Nathan Riley finished second and Dylan McCoy 17th during a high school cross country meet here Thursday.

Riley unofficially posted a best-ever time of 17:18 over a 5K course while McCoy was timed in 19:28.

The Wardogs finished fourth as a team.

"Nathan ran at the fastest pace that he has ever run," Miami coach Bruce Rhodes said. "The young man that finished ahead of him was a seventh-place 2010 medalist from Cleveland."

This marked the first time McCoy had turned in a sub-20-minute time during a meet.

Miami's other runners included Shawn Boyd, 20:08; Diarmid McMillan, 20:13, and Zane Laxton, 20:37.

"Zane Laxton had the best 'kick' he has ever had," Rhodes said. "I am proud of all five of these runners. They have been working hard at practice and it is starting to show in their performance.

"These young men have some high goals that I hope that they are able to achieve this year."

Miami will compete in a meet next Thursday at Tulsa O'Brien Park, hosted by Booker T. Washington.
