INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — After building a 1-0 lead at halftime, Northeastern A&M’s Golden Norsemen soccer team was held scoreless in a 2-1 loss Friday afternoon at Independence Community College.
Sophomore mid-fielder Joao Fonseca connected on a penalty kick midway through the first half as the Norsemen maintained a 1-0 lead at the break.
“This was a very unusual match because there was no flow for our offense,” Golden Norse head coach John Parrigon said. “It’s hard to assess a match like this when you’re a coach because you know we should have scored four or five goals against Independence.
“We just didn’t get it done offensively,” Parrigon said. “I’m very disappointed by the way we played.”
The loss dropped the Golden Norsemen to 1-5-1 on the year while the Pirates are 1-5 on the season.
Returning home for three straight matches, the Norsemen host the Mavericks of Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa at 4 p.m. on Thursday in a Region II match.
