FAIRLAND - Fourteen runs in the final two innings helped Commerce crush Fairland 17-5 in high school baseball play here Saturday.

The Owls had gone up 4-3 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.

However, in the top of the sixth, CHS sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs.

Fairland had three errors in the inning, which also saw the Tigers take advantage four walks and a hit batter, as well as three hits.

The Owls countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but CHS plated another four runs in the seventh.

Leadoff hitter Mathis went 5-for-6 for Commerce, collecting two doubles and three singles. He also reached on an error.

Garrett, Pannell, Francisco and Freeman all had two hits.

Jared Johnson and K..C. Jones had a double and single for Fairland. Caleb Reynolds and Kyle Crockett doubled and Dillon Sanford, Rusty Crosby, Derek Goins and Destrey Riley added singles.

The Owls left 10 runners stranded and left the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings.

Fairland 10, Welch 2

The Owls staked winning pitcher Jones to a 5-1 lead in the first inning then coasted.

Johnson, Sanford, Jones and Crosby all had two hits while Goins and Crockett each had a single.

C. Nair had a pair of singles for Welch. Chance Harris, Asa Chenoweth, Garrett Nair, Alex Smith and Riley added singles.

Fairland hosts Afton, Commerce entertains Chelsea and Welch visits Wyandotte on Monday, weather permitting.
