ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Defending champion Metropolitan Community College-Longview received the No. 1 seed for the Region XVI Division II Volleyball Tournament.

Six teams will compete in the single-elimination tournament, which begins today at 7 p.m. on the St. Louis Community College-Merimec campus.

Ranked 11th in the latest NJCAA national poll with a 35-7 overall record, the Longview Lakers received a bye in the opening round.

The Lakers will face the winner of the Northeastern A&M-St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley in a semifinal match at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The championship match will start at 2 p.m.

Winner of the regional advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II national tournament, Nov. 15-17 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Coach Eric Iverson's NEO Lady Norse received the No. 3 seed and stand 12-15 on the year.

The No. 6 seed Florissant Valley Norsewomen enter the tournament with a 14-25 overall mark.

East Central College of Union, Mo. received the No. 2 seed and a bye in the opening round.

The Rebels are 20-20 on the season and will face the Cottey College-St. Louis Community College-Merimec winner in the other semifinal match on Saturday.

The No. 4 seed Cottey College Comets of Nevada, Mo. enter the regional with an 11-12 season record while the No. 5 seed Merimec Magic are 14-23 on the year.

“We'll have to be at the top of our game, Iverson said. “This is a very competitive region and you can't afford any mistakes.
