Almost like clockwork, Mother Nature has thrown a monkey wrench into prep sports schedules for a second straight year.
The brutal ice storm that has left almost a million without power throughout the midwest has brought the local sports schedule to a standstill.
Miami's Verdigris Valley Conference basketball opener at home with Vinita was scrapped as were Grove at Pryor, Wyandotte at Afton, Commerce at Fairland, Riverton, Kan., at Quapaw and South Coffeyville at Welch as well as Grove's wrestling match at home with McDonald County High of Anderson, Mo.
The Miami High School football banquet, scheduled for Thursday night, has been postponed, according to head coach Chris Risenhoover.
No makeup date has been set, Risenhoover said.
It's not known whether the weather will cause problems with the other events scheduled for Thursday - the Wyandotte at Colcord and Watts at Fairland high school games, Grove at Siloam Springs, Ark., Quapaw at Afton and Oswego, kan., at Welch junior high games and Grove at Catoosa wrestling.
