TONKAWA - Erupting for 54 points in the second half, Northeastern A&M's Lady Norse cruised to an 86-58 victory Monday night over the Northern Oklahoma College Lady Mavericks before a large homecoming crowd in the Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

While extending their current winning streak to four games, coach Jim Rowland's Lady Norse are 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Bi-State Athletic Conference. Coach Greg Krause's Lady Mavericks slip to 7-7 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

“I'm so proud of the way our team performed,” Rowland said. “If you consider that we're without our two starting sophomore guards (Misty Haley and Autumn Thompson)and we spent the weekend driving back and forth to Coffeyville.

“Then on top of that, we get on the bus and drive three hours to Tonkawa,” Rowland said. “It's remarkable that we scored 86 point against a pretty good Northern team.”

Freshmen guard Megan Fraley and Tasha Hedgecorth continued to take control of the Lady Norse offense, scoring 18 points each. NEO also got 18 from Nolisha Markham and 14 from Skye Rees.

“I can't say enough about the way our freshmen have stepped up and made major contributions,” Rowland said. “Even though Northern controlled the boards, we executed our offense and made the high-percentage shots.”

Six points each by Hedgecorth, Fraley, Markham and Rees, along with four points each by Kaycee Donelson and Kali Bassett, propelled the Lady Norse to a 32-27 halftime lead.

The Lady Mavericks received seven points each from Carletta Hernandez and Holly Hardin, along with four points each from Amy Pryor, Vanessa Monroe and Lacey Koscheski, to trail by five points at intermission.

During the second 20 minutes, the Lady Norse guard tandem continued to score at will as the NEO lead swelled to 28 points.

Hernandez paced the Lady Mavericks with 15 points while Hardin added 13.

Pryor grabbed seven rebounds to give the Lady Mavs a 42-35 advantage on the boards. Fraley pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Lady Norse.
