GROVE - Three errors in the bottom of the eighth inning allowed Grove to score the winning run in a 5-4 victory over Miami in Verdigris Valley Conference softball play here Monday.
The loss dropped the Lady Wardogs' record to 6-5, and four of the five losses have been by one run.
The Lady Wardogs saw a 4-1 advantage turn into a 4-4 deadlock in the fifth inning.
Neither team threatened in the sixth or seventh.
Courtnei Young singled to lead off the Miami eighth. Shelby Jurgensmeyer flied out, then Haiden Rowland reached on an error. The inning ended when Allison Hayes struck out.
Grove pitcher Margaret Pogue led off the bottom of the eighth, reaching on an error. Katie Stout reached on another error.
Miami's Kelsey Neal got the next two batters on a popup and a strikeout, then Rachel Allington was safe on yet another miscue - allowing courtesy runner Alex Woods to score the winning run.
Kelly had a double and single for the Lady Wardogs, who also got two singles each from Young and Jurgensmeyer.
Neal added a single.
Grove had only five hits against Neal. Stacia Sarwinski led the way with a double and single.
Jurgensmeyer accounted for Miami's first three runs. She had a two-run single in the first then added a RBI single in the third.
Young singled home the final Lady Wardog run in the fifth.
Miami hosts Vinita Thursday in a Valley game.
