TONKAWA - Limiting Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa to only 16 points in the first half, Northeastern A&M's 29th-ranked Lady Norse earned a 76-53 victory Monday night over the Lady Mavericks in the Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

With the victory coach Jim Rowland's Lady Norse remain undefeated against teams from the Western Division of the Bi-State Athletic Conference with a 4-0 record. The Lady Norse are 10-2 overall.

Coach Greg Krause's Lady Mavericks slip to 3-11 on the season and 1-3 against the Bi-State East.

The Lady Norse return to the NEO Fieldhouse Wednesday for the final home game before the Christmas break for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Lady Jets. The Lady Jets are 10-2 on the season and 1-2 against the Bi-State East.

Against Northern-Tonkawa, the Lady Norse used a strong presence in the post by sophomore center Skye Rees to take control of the game from the opening tipoff.

Rees (6-2 of Melbourne, Australia) scored 14 of her game-high 26 points in the first half as NEO constructed a 31-16 cushion at intermission.

Freshman center Jelina Celina contributed six points, along with five points each by Megan Fraley, Nolisha Markham and Ashley Mekeel and a layup by Kali Bassett, to provide the Lady Norse lead.

Sparked by six points each by Kelsea Rey, Korie Hargis and Bethany McBride, the Lady Mavericks sliced the deficit to 44-34 midway through the second half.

Three-point field goals by Rees, Bassett, Mekeel and Kashei Hopkins enabled the Lady Norse to pull away to a 56-36 advantage with 9:21 left in the game.

Rees turned in a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Fraley contributed 13 points.

The Lady Norse connected on 25 of 74 (34 percent) from the field, including 5 of 19 from 3-point range. NEO was a near-perfect 21 of 24 at the free throw line, shooting 88 percent.

Hargis paced the Lady Mavericks with 11 points along with 10 from McBride.

The Lady Mavs hit 19 of 66 (29 percent) from the field, including 3 of 15 from the 3-point area, and 12 of 20 for 60 percent at the free throw line.

Celina grabbed 11 rebounds to give the Lady Norse a 39-35 edge on the boards. Victoria Russell and Liberty Payne each had seven rebounds to lead the Lady Mavs.
