QUAPAW - The Wyandotte, Fairland, Afton and Welch boys and girls posted first-round wins in the Quapaw tournament.

In boys' games, it was Wyandotte 25, Quapaw 36; Welch 56, Quapaw 10; Afton 46, Commerce 21, and Fairland 49, Bluejacket 26.

First-round girls' scores included Quapaw 1 19, Wyandotte 27; Quapaw 2 16, Welch 30; Fairland 35, Bluejacket 15, and Afton 28, Commerce 8.

The Tuesday schedule in the main gym included four semifinal games - Afton vs. Welch girls and boys at 5 and 6 p.m., respectively, and Wyandotte vs. Fairland girls and boys at 7 and 8 p.m., respectively.

Consolation games Tuesday in the student center include Commerce vs. Quapaw 2 girls and boys at 5 and 6 p.m., respectively, and Bluejacket vs. Quapaw 1 girls and boys at 7 and 8 p.m., respectively.

Consolation finals will be Thursday at 5 and 6 p.m. in the student center.

Third place games will also be Thursday at 5 and 6 p.m. in the main gym.

The girls' final is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by the boys' title game at 8 p.m.


Quapaw 36, Wyandotte 25

A 9-3 edge in the third quarter helped Quapaw open up some breathing room for the Wildcats, who had led only 19-16 at intermission.

Austin Karnes headed up the Wildcats' scoring with 11 points. Jacob Lux had 11 points for Wyandotte.

Welch 56, Quapaw 10

Welch turned a 16-4 first quarter lead into a 31-6 halftime advantage.

Austin Buchanan had 17 points for Welch. Cody Adams and Cameron Potter scored four each for Quapaw.

Afton 46, Commerce 21

The Eagles jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Fuser scored 16 points and Shepard added 13 for Afton. R. Carrillo had seven points and B. Smith added six for Commerce.

Fairland 49, Bluejacket 26

A 13-0 run in the second quarter helped the Owls take charge.

Koger and Boyd had 18 and 16 points, respectively, for Fairland. Harris scored 14 for the Chieftains.


Wyandotte 27, Quapaw 1 19

The Lady Bears grabbed a 4-2 lead in the first quarter and continued to pull away. They were up 10-4 and 22-12 heading into the final stanza.

A balanced Wyandotte scoring attack included six points from Brooke Romine and five each from Alison Douthit, Alex Lyons and Chelsea Poindexter. Hailey Heltzel scored 13 for the Lady Wildcats.

Welch 30, Quapaw 2 16

The Lady Wildcats led 8-0 after one quarter, 16-8 at the break and 28-14 heading into the final stanza.

Tyler Dodson had seven points to lead Welch while Alexa Chapa scored 12 points for Quapaw.

Fairland 35, Bluejacket 15

The Lady Owls held 14-3 and 10-2 margins in the first and third quarters during their win.

McCorkell scored 16 while Hutchinson added 10 for Fairland. S. Brigstock was Bluejacket's leader with nine points.

Afton 28, Commerce 8

Afton turned a 4-2 first-quarter deficit into a 12-4 halftime advantage. The Lady Eagles then held a 14-6 edge the rest of the way.

Petersen and Crane scored eight points each for Afton. Maycee North had four points for the Lady Tigers.
