Five runs in the final two innings helped Jay cruise to a 10-3 victory over Miami here Thursday in a Verdigris Valley Conference softball game.

The loss was the second in as many outings for the Lady Wardogs, who had dropped a 2-0 decision to Claremore on Tuesday.

Miami jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Emily Cline singled, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice by Veronica Arizpe.

However, the Lady Bulldogs scored three times in the top of the second and added two more runs in the third.

Miami cut into the deficit by scoring single runs in the third and fourth innings.

In the third, Melanie Blackburn singled with one out and scored on a two-out single by Kelly.

Then in the fourth, the Lady Wardogs got an unearned run when Jurgensmeyer reached on an error, allowing Kelsey Neal to score. Neal had led off with a single, and after Courtnei Young was hit by a pitch, each moved into scoring position on a passed ball.

Jay pulled away in the latter innings, taking advantage of three Miami errors.

The Lady Bulldogs got a single run in the sixth then broke the game open with a four-run rally in the seventh.

Emily Cline had three singles to head up a seven-hit Miami attack. Kelly, Arizpe, Neal and Blackburn each added singles.

Miami is in the Oologah Festival today then travels to Claremore Sequoyah Saturday.
