SARCOXIE, Mo. — Sisters Mandy and Courtney Watson combined for 36 points to lead the Commerce girls to a 58-28 victory over host Sarcoxie Monday night in the first round of the Sarcoxie Tournament.
The Commerce boys bombarded Sarcoxie with 10 3-point goals on their way to a 63-47 rout.
The Lady Tigers face Strafford, Mo., Thursday at 5 p.m. in a semifinal game.
The CHS boys return here Friday to play Joplin (Mo.) College Heights Christian.
But before that, they have Lucky 7 Conference games at Bluejacket tonight.
Each Watson had 18 points for CHS, which jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter.
“We got Mandy the ball inside and Courtney attacked the baseline pretty good,” Commerce girls’ coach Jerry Myers said.
The Lady Tigers were up 27-12 at intermission, then outscored Sarcoxie 18-11 and 13-6 in the second half.
Jacey Knight scored eight points while Taylor Stevenson added six. Breanna Blankenship and Jerrica Trease added four and two, respectively.
Keisha Height scored 15 points for Sarcoxie.
The Tigers broke out to a 16-6 lead in the opening minutes of the boys’ game and continued to pull away.
They went into the half with a 32-24 advantage then used treys from Kyler Ng, Kasey Ng and Luis Arizpe to fuel a 21-11 run that ballooned the lead to 18 heading into the fourth quarter.
Kyler Ng had 17 points and Kasey Ng added 11. Each downed three treys.
Arizpe, T.J. Arnold, Ricky Carrillo and Brandon Hilton each had one 3-pointer.
Joey Bowling added seven points followed by Arnold and Arizpe with six each, Carrillo, Hilton and Blake Witten with five. Braden Smith added a free throw.
Nate Blass scored 19 to lead the Sarcoxie offensive effort.
