COMMERCE - Breaking out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings, Welch rolled to a 13-4 victory over Commerce in a high school baseball game here Thursday.

"We played outstanding," Welch coach Billy Willard said. "We hit the ball the best we have all year and Asa Chenoweth had a great outing on the mound."

Chenoweth struck out seven and walked two in four innings of work. He allowed only one run.

Tyler Neal finished up for the Wildcats, striking out one while walking one.

Jacob Mount went 4-for-4 with a triple. He scored three runs, drove in three runs and stole two bases.

Chance Harris was 3-for-3 with a double and two walks. He scored four times and stole three bases while driving in a run.

Chenoweth had three singles, an RBI and a stolen base in four at-bats.

Garrett Nair had a grand slam and single for the Cats. He also scored once.

Welch jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning then added four more runs in the second.

The Cats scored twice in the third and added a final two runs in the fourth.

Commerce scored a single run in the third, then plated a final three runs in the fifth.

Welch hosts Afton Friday afternoon.

The Tigers are playing in the Chelsea Wood Bat Tournament that wraps up on Saturday.
