QUAPAW - Despite being outmanned, Quapaw held its own during a high school football scrimmage with Class 2A toughie Colcord here Thursday night.
“We're getting better,” Wildcat coach Brad Homer said. “I was really proud of Morgan Morey. He hasn't played quarterback since the eighth grade and he did a good job.”
Homer, entering his second season here, said the Cats scored a couple of times.
“We got them on a deep pass play,” Homer said. “We had another couple of pass plays where we just flat dropped it.
“I told the guys that they had to feel better about themselves, but don''t be satisfied. We have a long ways to go.”
The Wildcats travel to Chouteau next Thursday then open the season the following Thursday against Wyandotte.
In scrimmages Friday, Miami will be at the Rougher Festival in Muskogee with Tahlequah and Sallisaw, Fairland hosts Wyandotte, Gore and Hulbert, Commerce entertains Chelsea and Salina is at Afton.
Admission to the scrimmages at Commerce and Afton are soap and towel.
