After two weeks of preparation, most of the area's high school football teams face their first pre-season scrimmage Friday night.
Fairland head coach Jerry Johnson said the Owls are on "standby" for their scrimmage at Oklahoma Union on Friday.
Johnson said officials at OU might have to cancel the scrimmage since a number of players are participating in a county fair.
In other scrimmages, Commerce travels to Chelsea, Wyandotte is at Porter and Welch travels to Gans for a three-way that includes Oaks.
Afton is idle this week but will host Oklahoma Union in a 10 a.m. scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Johnson said Wednesday's warmer temperatures were a factor in practice.
"We had spells where we were up and down," Johnson said. "It definitely was better when the weather was cooler. They had a lot more energy.
"If its 97 out, its gotta be 120 inside that helmet. It's hard to keep their attention."
Johnson said there have been 26 players participating in drills, but that could increase by a few.
