CARTHAGE, Mo. ó Riding a nine-game winning streak, the seventh-ranked Northeastern A&M Lady Norse played three games Saturday in the first round of the Carthage Bash hosted by Crowder College at the Carthage Softball Complex.

Coach Eric Iversonís Lady Norse carried a 15-3 season record into the two-day round robin.

After playing the Lady Warriors of Indian Hills, Iowa (5-9) at noon, the Lady Norse squared off against the Monarchs of Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods (7-9) at 2 p.m. NEO concluded the first day at 6 p.m. against the Grizzly of Butler County, Kan. (11-8).

The Lady Norse resume action at 11 a.m. Sunday against the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College (12-8) before facing the Falcons of East Central College (10-7) at 3 p.m.

After a five-day spring break, the Lady Norse return to the NEO diamond on Saturday, March 24, for a 2 p.m. Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference double-header with the Lady Raiders of Rose State College. NEO is a perfect 6-0 in conference action. †

Traveling to Poteau on Thursday, the Lady Norse swept a OCAC double-header 3-0 and 5-1 from the Lady Vikings of Carl Albert State College.

Freshman right-hander Nicole Workman limited the Lady Vikings to three hits in the 3-0 shutout. Workman struck out six and walked two while raising her record to 5-0 on the year.

NEO scored two runs in the top of the third inning after Lyndy Fluman was hit by a pitch. Courtney Cox followed with a single to left before Candice Monigold singled to center to fill the bases. A single by Megan Sullivan scored Fluman and Workman delivered a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Clark.

With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Clark was hit by a pitch. Monigold singled to right before Sullivan produced an RBI single to left, scoring Clark.

Clark, Monigold and Sullivan each provided two hits while Fluman added a single as the top half of the Lady Norse offense generated all the hits.

Kaitlin Odom collected two singles and Jessika Nolan added the other base hit for Carl Albert.

Another strong pitching performance by freshman Alex Gilkey led to a 5-1 Lady Norse win in the nightcap. Gilkey is 6-2 on the year after allowing one run on eight hits. She struck out nine and did not allow a walk.

Monigold hit her fifth home run of the year to start a three-run outburst by NEO in the top of the first inning. Sullivan followed with a double down the left field line. Workman doubled to right-center, scoring Sullivan. After Brittany Watson singled, pinch runner Haiden Rowland scored for a 3-0 cushion.

The Lady Vikings scored their only run of the day on a lead off double to right by Kera Smith. Jessicah Moudy lined a single to center as Smith crossed the plate for a 3-1 deficit.

With two outs in the top of the third inning, Watson reached on a fielding error by pitcher Holly Mock. Allyson Pogue doubled to right-center scoring Watson for a 4-1 NEO cushion.

A walk to Sullivan and a single to left by Megan Higgins created a run for the Lady Norse in the top of the fifth inning. After a fielderís choice by Watson, Sullivan scored on a sacrifice fly by Pogue.

Two hits each by Watson and Pogue led the 10-hit Lady Norse attack. Pogue, Sullivan and Workman contributed doubles, along with the homer by Monigold.
