MIAMI —Northeastern A&M held off hard-charging Tyler (Texas) Junior College 87 for a 40-35 homecoming victory at Red Robertson Field.

A 45-yard scoop-and-score by the Apache linebacker Brennon Davis and the ensuing PAT kick whittled a once-secure NEO lead down to two points with 7:48 remaining.

A 34-yard field goal by Tommy Heatherly bumped the lead back up to five (40-35) at the 2:07 mark.

But Tyler took the ensuing kickoff and drove from its 34 to the Norse 16-yayrd line with time running down.

Three straight pass plays by quarterback Jeremiah Crawford fell incomplete.

Then on fourth down, Crawford hit David Johnson, but he hit a wall of Norse defenders and lost a yard.

NEO then went into victory formation to melt off the final 32 seconds.

The Norsemen, 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, wrap up the regular season with back-to-back road games at New Mexico Military Institute on Oct. 20 then travel to Cisco, Texas, on Oct. 27.
