CLAREMORE – The Miami boys were second and the girls fifth at the Verdigris Valley Conference cross country meet at Sequoyah High School Monday, Oct. 8.
The Wardogs, paced by Andrew Acupan’s fourth-place individual finish, tallied 60 points, just six behind Sequoyah.
Acupan had a time of 18:16.55 over the 5K course.
Miami’s other placers were ninth, Kolton Browning (19:20.16); 12th, Ryan Hackett, 19:49.02; 15th, Bo Smith, 20:06.03, and 21st, Braden Key, 20:56.02.
Caden Goss of Fort Gibson was the individual winner with a time of 16:38.22.
Sequoyah was the team winner with 54 points, including a second and fourth individually.
Wagoner was third at 73, followed by Catoosa, 75; Jay, 96, and Inola, 144.
The best individual finish for the Lady Wardogs was a 19th by Elle Savig, who had a time of 15:33.49.
The girls ran 3,200 meters.
Ruthie Hammons was 22nd at 15:41.40, followed by Mary Marugu, 23rd, 15:46.86; Shelby Hubbard, 27th, 16:09.49, and Alyssa Pendergraft, 32nd, 17:20.45.
Vinita, with five of the 12 best times, was the girls’ champ with 36 points.
Sequoyah was the runner-up with 44, followed by Wagoner, 65; Jay, 87; Miami, 123, and Catoosa, 170.
Sequoyah’s Tori Wood had the best time among the girls at 13:12.08.
