COMMERCE — A new champ will be crowned at the Commerce Lady Tiger Classic.
Adair scored a 3-2 victory over East Newton, Missouri, with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning of last year’s championship game.
While Adair didn’t return, East Newton will head up the five-team field for the fast pitch tournament, which will be played Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
Commerce, Verdigris, Fairland and Afton also are in the field.
One out from falling to East Newton in the bottom of the seventh inning, Alliegh Branham drove in the tying run for Adair.
The scenario was similar in the bottom of the eighth, but a one-out single to left by catcher Katy Huffman drove in the winning run as the Lady Warriors escaped with the victory.
Five games will be played on Thursday and Friday with a final three on Saturday.
The host Lady Tigers face Verdigris in the tournament opener at 2 p.m. Thursday.
In other games on Thursday, it’s Verdigris vs. Fairland, 3:30; Fairland vs. East Newton, 5 p.m.; Afton vs. East Newton, 6:30 p.m., and Commerce vs. Afton, 8 p.m.
