MIAMI — Miami erupted for 23 runs on 25 hits during a 23-5 District 4A-6 fast pitch softball win over Jay here Tuesday, Aug. 21.
The win bumped the Lady Wardogs’ record to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the district.
In other games played recently, it was Miami 8, Locust Grove 4; Miami 7, Stilwell 3; Claremore Sequoyah 9, Miami 0, and Grove 7, Miami 2.
Miami 23, Jay 5
Thirteen different players had at least one hit for the Lady Wardogs.
Five players had three hits each and 11 of the Lady Wardogs’ 25 hits were for extra bases.
Jordan Davis belted a solo homer in the fourth inning and added two singles.
Beca Hopping delivered two doubles and a single while Lauren Willard and sisters Abby and Jessie Ishmael each had a double and two singles.
Jordan Quapaw and Alexa Payne each chipped in with a double and single.
Hannah Hardcastle, Maddee Barnes and Kori Robison doubled and Jordan Shirley, Carsyn Payton and Kiah Payton each had a base hit.
The Lady Wardogs, ahead 4-0 after one, broke the game open with a 14-run burst in the second inning.
Eighteen batters went to the plate during the inning.
Hopping had the big hits, a bases-loaded double and RBI single.
Willard had a single and two-run double.
Others with multiple hits in the inning were Jessie Ishmael, pair of RBI singles; Davis, two singles and an RBI; and Abby Ishmael, two singles.
Robison and Payne each had RBI doubles; Hardcastle an RBI double and Jordan came through with a single and RBI fly ball.
Jay got all five of its runs in the third inning, and then MHS tacked on another five in the fourth.
Miami 8, Locust Grove 4
Four runs in the top of the seventh inning made the difference as Miami turned back Locust Grove in a district game Monday, Aug. 20.
Single runs in the first and fourth and two in the fifth gave the Lady Wardogs a 4-0 lead.
They came back with another four in the top of the seventh that wound up being the difference.
In the Miami seventh, two runs scored on errors. Jessie Ishmael had an RBI single and Robison squeezed home a run.
Locust Grove made things interesting by scoring four times in the bottom of the seventh.
Hopping was the Lady Wardogs’ leading hitter, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Abby Ishmael doubled and Willard, Jessie Ishmael and Quapaw all had a single.
Miami 7, Stilwell 3
Three two-run rallies helped the Lady Wardogs.
The game was tied at 1-1 until MHS took the lead for good in the fourth.
The Lady Wardogs got another two-run rallies, in the fifth and seventh to ice the win.
Stilwell’s final runs came in its half of the fifth.
Abby Ishmael and Davis got three singles each and Jessie Ishmael chipped in with a double and single.
Hopping, Hardcastle, Robison and Briah Harner all had singles.
Claremore Sequoyah 9, Miami 0
Ariel Thompson fanned 15, walked none and allowed only one hit, a double by Hopping.
Sequoyah collected 12 hits.
The Lady Eagles got six runs in the first and pulled away with single runs in the second, third and fifth.
Grove 7, Miami 2
The Lady Ridgerunners broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the third. They scored twice in the fourth and got single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Willard was MHS’ hit leader with a double and two singles
Quapaw picked up two singles, Hardcastle a double and Davis and Payne a single each.
Macee Barnes two-run homer in the fourth part of an eight-hit attack for Grove.
