AFTON — There’s a lot of new faces in the starting lineup of the Afton Lady Eagle fast pitch softball team.
Five starters, including three four-year regulars, have had to be replaced.
“We are pretty young,” said coach Bobby Shinn. “We’ve got a lot of new faces.
Only three players are back from last year’s team: Laney Hudson, Ragan Hudson and Taylie Burrow.
This will be Burrow’s third year in the circle for the Lady Eagles.
Ragan Hudson has moved from left field to replace Carlee Shinn behind the plate.
Laney Hudson will be starting at shortstop.
The Lady Eagles are battling low numbers. Only 11 players are on the Afton roster.
Shinn’s lineup includes two freshmen (MaKenna Murray and Jordan Noblin), three sophomores (Layne Hudson, Baily Fields and Tomi Betz), two juniors (Taylie Burrow and Clarissa Rice) and two seniors (Sidney Huddleston and Ragan Hudson).
.Joining Layne Hudson on the infield are Fields at first base, Noblin at second and Rice at third base.
The outfield includes Huddleston in left, Betz in center and Murray in left.
“We will play small ball,” Shinn said. “We’ve been swinging the bat pretty well and bunted the ball when we needed to.”
The Lady Eagles, who have dropped to Class A this season, were 13-11 in 2017.
They were shut out twice in Class 2A district tournament play, 4-0 and 13-0.
