MIAMI – Jessica Roberts of Fairland broke two records during the Lucky 7 Conference track meet Monday, April 23 at the Miami High School oval.
Roberts, who has broken six FHS school records this season, won the 100-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 15.87 seconds.
That eclipsed the old record of 16.20 seconds set by Keith of Welch at the 1985 meet.
Roberts also set a new standard while winning the 300 low hurdles.
Keith had set the conference record with a time of 46.92 seconds, surpassing Keith’s time of 48.90 set in 1982.
Roberts also won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.94 seconds and the pole vault by clearing 7-0.
Mattie Flanigan of Ketchum cleared 5-5 in the high jump, three inches better than the previous record shared by three athletes: Patterson of Picher-Cardin in 1999, Donnell Robitaille of Fairland in 2003, and Flannigan in 2017.
Flannigan also was the winner in the long jump, soaring 18-3.75.
Afton’s Wil Amos broke his own record in the 400-meter dash.
He had a 50.46-second run Monday. He had posted a time of 50.51 last year.
Amos also won the 100 in 10.84 seconds and the 200 with a time of 22.90 seconds.
Garrett Cypert of Ketchum won the boys 1,600 and 3,200 and Gauge Austin of Foyil both hurdles events.
The Colcord boys won the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays.
Welch’s girls had two double winners, Addison Chenoweth in the 200 (26.68) and 400 (62.13) and Jaci Clinton in the 1,600 (6:16.07) and 3,200 (13:16.44).
Commerce and Fairland split the four girls’ relay events, CHS taking the 4x100 (59.28) and 4x200 (1:56.99) and Fairland the 4x400 (4:42.93) and 4x800 (11:59.17).
Winners in other events were:
Girls — 800, Kathleen Schertz, Fairland, 2:41.78; shot put, Olivia Pitcher, Welch, 30-2; discus, Tori Barker, Fairland, 93-7.
Boys — 800, Jose Garcia, Fairland, 2:18.27; Shot put, Kody Long, Colcord, 41-7; Discus, Tristan Davis, Welch, 114-10; Long jump, Charles Reed, Fairland, 20-8; High jump, Ryan Cooper, Wyandotte, 5-10; 4x400 relay, Commerce, 3:45.65; 4x800 relay, Fairland, 9:41.50.
Wyandotte rolled to the boys’ title with 146 points.
Foyil was second with 96 points, Fairland third with 85 and Colcord, 82.
Rounding out the field were Commerce, 70; Afton, 47; Welch, 27; Quapaw, 25 and Ketchum 23.
Fairland was the winner on the girls’ side with 152 points.
Welch was second at 108, followed by Ketchum, 98, and Commerce, 82.
Also scoring on the girls’ side were Afton, 76; Wyandotte, 49; Foyil, 38; Quapaw, 14; Colcord, 13, and Bluejacket, 6.
