FAIRLAND — Commerce held off Fairland for an 11-10 baseball victory here Monday, April 9.
A bases loaded walk to Caden Pickard forced Ryan Dunbar in with what turned out to be the winning run for the Tigers.
Fairland rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth then pulled to within a run in the seventh on a fly ball by Lane Tudor.
Jamal Morris reached on an error, moving Gavin Long to third, but Cooper Elmer grounded out, ending the game.
Commerce broke out to a 2-0 lead in the first only to have the Owls counter with a six-run rally in the bottom of the second.
The Tigers continued to cut into the deficit with two runs in the third and one in the fourth.
CHS rallied for five runs in the fifth and tacked on the deciding final run in the sixth inning.
Lance Hyatt and Casey Perry had two singles each for the Tigers. Pickard, Hunter Burkybile, Caleb Pittman and Gabe Gray had a single each.
Riley Powell and Isaac Matthews collected a double and single each while Lane Tudor had two singles for Fairland.
Gavin Long doubled and Luke Jones singled.
Jacob Bachman, the fourth of five pitchers used by Commerce, picked up the win.
Brant Nading, Hyatt, Ryah Dunbar and Burkybile also shared duties on the mound.
Powell was tagged with the loss. He had relieved Long. Rice worked the final 2.1 innings.
