COMMERCE — Three ranked teams — including two locally — are in the field for the 19th annual Mickey Mantle Classic that runs through Saturday.
Haskell was No. 8, Wyandotte 11th and Commerce 15th, all in Class 2A in last week’s ossaarankings.com.
While it should not be a big surprise, Mother Nature threw out a speedbump Sunday and Monday.
The area picked up .17 of an inch of precipitation during a burst Sunday morning, but tournament director Brian Waybright said in a text that the tarp was down at Mickey Mantle Field.
There had been some concern that Monday’s schedule might have to be moved, but nice weather on Friday and Saturday eliminated that problem.
Fourteen teams are entered this year.
The Comet Division Pinstripe Pool includes Afton, Commerce, Haskell and Sarcoxie, Missouri, and Fairland, the Neosho (Missouri) JV, Quapaw and Wyandotte in the Yankee Pool.
The Triple Crown Division’s Hall of Fame Pool includes Tahlequah Sequoyah, Miami, and Neosho, Missouri, with Diamond and McDonald County, Missouri, and Locust Grove in the Whiz Kid Pool.
Three games were scheduled for Monday — Fairland vs. Neosho JV, 4 p.m.; Sarcoxie vs. Commerce, 6 p.m., and Quapaw vs. Wyandotte, 8 p.m. — and another three on Tuesday — Afton vs. Sarcoxie, 4 p.m.; Haskell vs. Commerce, 6 p.m., and Fairland vs. Wyandotte, 8 p.m.
The schedule on Thursday and Friday will be split between Mantle Field and Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin.

The awards banquet will be at 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Miami.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance at the field for $20.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the banquet begins at 7:30.
There will be live and silent auctions.
